On Saturday mornings, make a list of the meals that the family will be eating for the next week . Do a weekly grocery shopping trip, so that you don’t have to pop into Woolies during the week.

Cook supper in advance and rely on old favourites like spaghetti bolognaise, stews and roasts. All your partner has to do is dish the meals up.

In my house it’s a hard and fast rule that homework will be done as soon as the children get home, leaving the rest of the afternoon free for playtime.

Schoolbags, lunches, soccer/hockey/cricket/ballet kit is packed and at the door before 5pm.
