The pavement is tar, scorching hot.

Without a word, a mother steps out of her slip-slops and slides them over to her barefoot daughter.

They walk on, the 10-year-old happily clomping in the slightly-too-big shoes, licking an ice-cream.

It's so cool when parents do this, sacrifice a little - or a lot - without expecting anything in return.
