We passed a milestone today, as 9-year-old Joel made his dad and me a cup of tea without parental hovering. The glow of pride as he carefully carried it over to the coffee table was worth my anxiety.

In the year ahead I hope I notice these small milestones whenever they pass, because it’s easy to get stressed and blind to them.

Here’s to a year full of memorable moments.

And back we go to school with stiff new shoes, stationery lists, freshly sharpened pencils, and my personal hell of covering books with plastic.
