As the year winds down we’re all looking forward to a well-deserved break from the school morning scramble. But come January, we’ll probably be only too willing to drop our kids off for a few hours of educational safekeeping.

Trends in South African schools show more and more how technology is being integrated into teaching, with schools using iPads from as early as grade 4. Online tools are making the world of difference in aiding teachers and learners, particularly when it comes to maths. In this year’s International Maths Olympiad, South Africa ranked 58^th out of 109 competing countries, with a Cape Town pupil from Westerford High School taking home a bronze medal. E-learning is giving many learners access to after-hours support, be it revision, coaching, or added enrichment. While all of this is positive, it’s also costly.
