"My homebirth was wonderful – I'll do it all over again!"

accreditation

After having my daughter in a Semi Private Hospital, and not really enjoying my experience of having my Husband in and out the room at their leisure. I started searching for other options when I was pregnant with my son. We were planning on doing the same as my daughter, as much as I didn't like it, I'm not on medical aid, so it seemed like the only option. However, one day I started phoning about home births, it seemed like the perfect thing having my son at home and in my own comfort areas! I managed to get a hold of Gentle Births and set up and appointment with Cheryl Rowe. We discussed prices and after having a long chat with my hubby, we (mostly I) decided it was what I really wanted!!!

He was due on the 18th Feb, but like my daughter, I had to be induced! So on the 20th Feb, at 10am I had two Midwives come to start by giving me homeopathic drops, I got two doses and at 11am Cheryl showed up! She took me upstairs gave me an internal & turned out I was already 4cm! She then attached the drip and took me downstairs for an hour where I felt like I was just having Braxton Hick Contractions. She then took me back upstairs where we broke my waters and then had the hard work start!!! Minutes really felt like hours! But it was all much more bareable than when I had my daughter! About an hour and a bit into labor they realised my Uterus was too far forward and my son wasn't able to position himself properly to be born!

So they asked me to sit on the toilet to help with the positioning!! It must have been 15-20 mins later and I started to feel the urge to push! I was transferred to my bed, where I had my mother and mother in law there, as well as my husband with me the whole time!!! 30 mins of pushing and my son was born at 3:20pm weighing 3.8kgs!!!

I'm absolutely tiny & was so stunned that I managed to have him! As soon as he was born, cord still on and all, we had everyone come up to meet him! and he was able to meet ALL of his family as well as having his big sister meet him. I did tear, so I had to have stitches, but about an hour after his birth I was already in the shower getting washed.

I can explain the feeling of having him at home!! It was so nice to be in my own comfort and I wouldn't have changed my decision or experience for anything!!! As much as people think you're crazy for having a child at home, how do they think things were done before?!? If there is going to be a problem, it will happen whether you're in hospital or at home!
