Monday's child is fair of face
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
But the child who is born on the Sabbath Day
Is bonny and blithe and good and gay.

We’ve been chatting over here at Parent24 about the reasons parents choose dates for their elective Caesarean section births. We’ve come across straightforward reasons such as coordinating the birth with maternity leave to be off work as long as possible, or so that support structures would all be in place, or just that the day chosen was the only one your doctor was available.

"That's the day we won the World Cup!"

Then we’ve also heard about some stranger reasons for choosing to have baby born on a specific day, such as:
  • So that baby can share a birthday with a relative (surely that would make birthdays an expensive occasion?)
  • Public Holiday births (baby will always have the day off to celebrate!)
  • Holding out for payday, because birth can be expensive, right?
  • Superstition about the days of the week (poor Monday!)
Did you have a special reason for choosing the day on which your baby’s elective Caesarean section would take place? We’d love to hear the stories behind those reasons. Tell us yours, and we may mention you in our next story about elective C-sections.
