Sisters Simone and Shari must have been pleased enough to share their pregnancy journeys with each other, but neither expected to also share baby birthdays.

The New York families welcomed their babies on 3 July, which also happens to be their father's birthday. Grandpa Elmo, who turned 70 on the day, said he was looking forward to buying the girls gifts.

Both women where due to deliver their baby girls in mid-July, but Simone opted for an elective C-section scheduled for 3 July, so her father could share a birthday with his grandchild.

Shari was induced, but went into labour earlier than the doctor they shared expected, which delayed her sister's scheduled c-section.

Dr Jay Seraji is reported to have told Simone, "We've got an issue. Your sister was induced and I didn't expect her to go into labour until later, but she's 8 centimetres dilated and I'm going to have to take care of that."

The mother's are pleased with the shared birth dates, and are hoping the little cousins will be best friends.
