Naming remorse hits daft parents
We regret giving our child that terrible name

You may have worried about it for years, even before you ever fell pregnant, or rashly chosen the name of the nurse who upped your pain meds during labour, but you were responsible for naming your child
- and a study has shown that one in ten parents feel remorse about the name they chose.
Part of the fun of reading about celebrities is the way celeb moms and dads outdo each other when it comes to naming their soon-to-be-famous progeny. Most of us had a laugh about Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter Apple, and Frank Zappa’s unfortunate
four children: Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet Emuukha Rhodan and Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen.
David Bowie’s son was known as Zowie, until he famously opted to change his name to Joe, and then Duncan. You can hardly blame him. The author was unable to contact Peaches Geldof for her opinions on naming.Current name-fails go to:
When 'normal' names go wrong
- Audio Science, daughter of Shannyn Sossamon
- Pilot Inspektor, son of Jason Lee
- Petal Rainbow Blossom and Poppy Honey, daughters of Jamie Oliver, and
- Jermajesty, son of Jermaine Jackson
Even more pedestrian names
can bring regret to parents. Baby name trends are fickle, so just when you thought you came up with something hip and original, your child’s future school-friends’ parents are often thinking the same thing.
You can see it in their classes at school: You’ll have Jaydens P, D and Z; the first initial of their surnames buying them some individuality.
Pamela Redmond Satran of baby name site nameberry.com said that many parents don't realize that a name like Jayden or Addison can shoot into the top 20 baby names within a matter of years. She says:
"First-time parents especially may be out of touch with quickly-changing baby name trends and so a name they believe is really original may be overused by the time they choose it for their child. Then they're dismayed when they get to the pediatrician's office or playground and discover there are lots of other little babies named Lila or Grayson and so suffer baby name remorse".
If you’re expecting, it might be a good idea to avoid looking to TV shows or movies for naming inspiration-
chances are, other parents will be doing the same, and watching exactly the same shows as you...Have you ever wished that you’d looked a little longer and harder for the right name for your child?
