We've all been down the road of researching what your baby will need and all the products you'll need to buy. Somehow, the excitement just becomes overwhelming and you find yourself spending thousands of rands on things you could really have done without.

For some, those products work. For others, they're a waste of money that will gather dust in your cupboard for years. But what does a baby really need and when does it become an essential?

We asked what your top "non-essential" essential items are and this is what our Facebook moms came up with:

The useless "essentials" list:

1. High chair

2. Nappy bin

3. Feeding pillow

4. Bottle warmer

5. Changing table

6. Baby bath

7. Baby monitor

8. Baby shoes.

9. Skin care products

10. Bouncer

11. Play mats

12. Electric steriliser

13. Carry cot

14. Humidifier

15. Unsolicited advice
