Bring out the heirlooms or raid your mother’s cupboard for old china, linen and tablecloths. Mix with elements such as the latest flower fabrics, or antique cutlery with a twist, and host a really girly, old-fashioned tea party.
Serve "high tea" food like scones with jam and cream, cake (we loved the red velvet cake made by The Pattiserie in Illovo, Johannesburg), mini sandwiches and biscuits.
Tip:
- Mix and match vintage tea pots and different coloured plates for an old school tea time feel. A lacy tablecloth completes the picture.
- Embellish cutlery simply and cheaply by cutting old material into strips, and tying around spoons, knives and forks like a ribbon.
