Pregnant and packed
For your stay at the hospital, this mom has some suggestions.

Most new moms are so stressed about the ‘big day’ of actually giving birth that they often forget about the little things you may need when you finally reach the hospital. Baby has finally arrived and now the fun begins!

There are some things that need to be organised well in advance, such as:
  • Your hospital plan
With most hospitals, you must book your bed before you are 30 weeks into the pregnancy – sounds like a long time but trust me, 30 weeks flies by so be sure to plan, book and pay your deposit well in advance.
  • Keep everyone informed
Once the hospital is organised, be sure to inform everyone which hospital you’ll be at. Be sure to give relevant contact numbers too, incase your husband isn’t around when baby decides it’s time to make his appearance and you need to be rushed to hospital.

A well stocked baby bag is essential! Especially for that first day/night after baby arrives. You’ll be in some pain still and depending on how you’ve given birth, a little dazed. The last thing you need is to realise that you’ve left something vital at home!

In your hospital bag should be:

For baby

  • Baby towel
  • Baby soap
  • Baby powder
  • Baby body lotion
  • Baby outfits x 2 (remember to pack short and long sleeve outfits just in case)
  • Toweling nappy (for burping baby)
  • Nappies (at least 4 depending on how long you are going to be in the hospital)
  • Bum cream
  • Baby blanket
For mom
  • Camera (yes - you are going to want to take photos of your new bundle in the middle of the night)
  • An outfit for when you go home
  • Toiletries
  • Towel
  • Nibbles
  • Book / magazine
  • Mommy pads
Don’t be afraid to pack too many things – it’s better to be prepared than be sorry.

What were your hospital essentials?
