I don't want to know!

I sometimes wonder why parents choose to not find out the gender of their baby before it's born. Isn't it more convenient to know so that you can plan baby's nursery or buy the pretty dresses or the cute little boy outfits? It just makes more sense to me. But ever the curious one I asked our lovely Facebook moms if they decided to find out their baby's sex beforehand and while a resounding number of them said yes, here's what the ones who said no had to say:

No because she was our first - Ulandi Potgieter

No. It's the only true surprise these days. - Tarryn-Joy Brydon Edwards

No. I just had my own intuition on it, and i was right. - Anne-Marie Brown McCue Neethling

No...it would be like opening your Xmas present before Xmas - Genevieve Brotherton Buckingham

No! Had planned to.... But as soon as the Dr said he could tell us, we suddenly decided we didn't want to know! That beautiful child is now 15 years old.... Gorgeous girl! - Paula Barnard-Ashton

No - decided to keep it a surprise! And it made the birth so much more exciting. - Kelly Painczyk

1st one, we waited for the surprise, 2nd one we found out before. - Rebecca Van Eeden

Nah, I didn't bother myself to know, because they lie sometimes. - Samke Slindo

No, wanted to be surprised  Still wasn't completely though, kinda expected a boy; and there he was! - Angie Oliphant

It's your choice

But whether or not you want to find out the sex of your baby, it remains that, your choice. Doctors can't keep that information from you if you want to know and similarly should respect your wishes if you don't. Sometimes finding out the sex at an early stage is vital for medical reasons such as sex-linked genetic disorders like haemophilia.

Did you want to know the gender of your baby before it was born?
