We often cover some strange birthing styles, but giving birth in the ocean with dolphins swimming around you has to be one of the oddest. It’s not happening yet, but according to Time, it’s coming soon, at least that’s what the Sirius Institute in Hawaii is claiming.
Dolphin therapy for smarter kids?
The Sirius Institute website offers “dolphin assisted birth and dolphin attended therapy” which is based on the principles that underwater birth is already proven to have benefits, and that ocean birth is calming and conducive to the mental and physical development of the baby. The Institute insists that babies born in hospitals where the mothers use pharmaceutical drugs for assistance run the risk of drug addiction later on as well as impaired brain development.
Dolphins, the site says, are naturally curious about pregnant women.
But Time Newsfeed suggests that the practice could be incredibly risky for mom and her baby, as wild (and even captive) dolphins are unpredictable and have been known to attack each other as well as humans. Perhaps a regular birthing pool and a whale song CD would be a better plan...

What do you think? Would an ocean birth with the dolphins be amazing or crazy?
