The 3rd trimester: Week 27
Week 27 of pregnancy
Congratulations, you've reached the 3rd Trimester! While reaching the third trimester feels like great progress, with it comes a return to fatigue, dizziness, and constant trips to the bathroom. You may find yourself short of breath as your uterus moves up higher in your ribcage and baby is putting pressure on your back. The best way to get a reprieve? Exercise!
How your baby's growing:
Your baby is about the size of a kitten now and covered in thin, shiny skin. Did you know? Baby's have more taste buds at birth than they do later in life as newborns are able to sniff out and tell the difference between their mother's milk and someone elses.
How you may be feeling:
You might be experiencing lower back pain at this point, as your centre of gravity has changed due to pregnancy. The pressure of baby's weight can also cause sciatica (shooting pains down your legs). This may be somewhat relieved by wearing low-heeled shoes and sitting with a straight back in a hard chair or on the floor, ice packs and warm baths.
Tip of the week
Even if you're feeling heavy and more prone to exhaustion, don't forget that your energy will be renewed through a considered workout. Get some fresh air and exercise!
Reasons why you should keep going:
Improved body image
More restful sleep and less insomnia
Decreased risk of gestational diabetes
Better balance and posture
Greater stamina for labour and delivery
Speedier recovery after giving birth
