A question we sometimes hear is “can an expectant mom’s nose grow in size during pregnancy?” Some women insist that their noses grew during pregnancy. Literature does accede that the mucous lining of the nose may become swollen and inflamed during pregnancy, and that some swelling of the extremities (oedema) is often recorded. Another opinion is that some pregnant women simply have body-image issues when pregnant, implying that the nose growth is merely imagined.

"I want my nose back!"

Most swelling  which takes place which is not actual body fat will start to dissipate after baby is born, although some women have said that their feet grew a shoe-size during pregnancy and never returned to their original size. Naturally, if your nose is swelling, you may have concerns that this swelling could be permanent, but this is highly unlikely.

According to AmericanPregnancy.org:

“During pregnancy, the body produces approximately 50% more blood and body fluids to meet the needs of the developing baby. Swelling is a normal part of pregnancy that is caused by this additional blood and fluid. Normal swelling, which is also called oedema, is experienced in the hands, face, legs, ankles, and feet.

Slight swelling is expected during pregnancy; however, if you experience sudden swelling in your hands and your face, it could be a sign of preeclampsia. It is important to contact your health care provider about any sudden swelling.”
