Manila in the Philippines is thought to have the world's busiest maternity ward.

In this BBC documentary, Anita Rani investigates rapidly growing populations in the developing world, talks to the pregnant women about to deliver their seventh baby and speaks with the nurses who make it all possible, as she explores the halls of one of the world’s busiest maternity wards.

The world’s population is growing at a rate of 80 million people a year. And Manila, the capital of the Philippines and one of the most densely populated cities on Earth, is also home to one of the world’s busiest maternity wards.

Anna, the head nurse in the ward says, by around 11am, they’ve already registered over 200 women to give birth for the day.

She estimates, in her career, she’s delivered “maybe 200 000” babies.
