Amanda Cotton is an artist with a vision: She wants to celebrate day-to-day rituals and the human body, according to her website. Her latest work has just made her mildly famous, not to mention bankable: She has designed a photo frame made out of placenta.
She and her assistant use the whole placenta: They boil it, cook it and then grid it into small pieces to be mixed with resin and other materials, reports the Telegraph.
The finished product has a very organic feel, and, according to Cotton, is an appealing addition to any new mom’s mantelpiece: How better to celebrate life than with the part of the body which helped sustain a life for nine months?
What are you going to do with your placenta?
Placentas have been used in many different ways according to culture and creativity. We’ve seen buried placentas, cooked and eaten placentas and even a teddy bear made out of one.
Some people are just grossed out by the idea of keeping what they reckon is human waste. By the way, Amanda’s site has sections labelled “urine”, “ear wax” and “maggots”, so it’s anyone’s guess what she’ll create next!
