What do Michael Jackson, Jacob Zuma and your children have in common?

The debate on the existence of Aliens has been on and off the agenda through the centuries. It recently reared its oddly-shaped-head when a “reputable” psychic from Los Angeles (born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa) claimed that Michael Jackson was indeed an Alien. She spoke with great conviction on one of our local radio shows explaining that the King of Pop was sent here by an Alien race to entertain us for a while. She also claimed that he had done what he was sent to do and had in-fact “willed” his own death and was now back on his home planet.

My initial reaction was “what a load of horse manure”. Then, watching the news later that evening I looked at Gershawn Coetzee, the sports presenter on e-tv… and later Derek van Dam doing the news… and switching channels in-between, the ageless Riaan Cruywagen appeared… Bob Mugabe featured in an insert claiming the American ambassador was an “idiot”, and of-course our own much maligned, yet much supported president Jacob Zuma, put in an appearance.

I suddenly realised that all of the above had often struck me as somewhat strange looking, and some of them definitely demonstrate some bizarre, if not Alien behaviour.

Gershawn’s cone-shaped head and the perma-smile, Riaan’s ageless looks and perfect make-up, Bob’s bizarre ranting… etc. Could these be as a result of them being Aliens forced into the bodies and minds of humans?

And then of-course there’s the Indigo child phenomenon. Indigo Children, according to Wikipedia, is a concept developed by Nancy Anne Tappe describing children who are alleged to possess special traits or abilities. Beliefs about indigo children range from their being the next stage in human evolution, possessing paranormal abilities such as telepathy, to the belief that they are simply more empathetic and creative than their non-indigo peers. So does this mean that it is time? Time for our next step in our evolution!? Are we in-fact being prepared to join MJ and Elvis, on the next level?

Wikipedia says sceptics suggest that the indigo phenomenon is due to parents preferring to believe their children are special, rather than having a medical diagnosis which implies damage or imperfection. Also criticized are the traits used to describe children, which are so vague as to be able to apply to anyone. Apparently many so-called Indigo children are diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Scientific arguments for or against Aliens are usually inconclusive, however, you just need to switch on the TV, more especially the news, to realise that indeed, we are not alone…

Who do you think is a closet Alien?
