Banting for babies
Tim Noakes, the man behind the banting diet and the Real Meal Revolution book, is a well-known name in South Africa and if you don't know someone on the banting diet then you've heard all about this new eating plan trend. If not, the basics are to cut out all carbs and unnatural sugars while consuming a high fat diet. Love it or hate it, there is a new Real Meal Revolution book due for release this August and it's aimed entirely at pregnant women, babies and children.
The new book called 'Raising Superheroes' is filled with scientific talk on how your child should be developing and which foods the brain needs to reach full potential, recipes on how to incorporate the LCHF diet from a young age and more tips and guides on nutrition. The cookbook does not however advocate no-carb eating for kids, but a low-sugar, low refined-carb, "real" food eating plan.
Fighting obesity, a growing concern among children, is a noble cause and one that must be addressed sooner rather than later. The Raising Superheroes cookbook is how Tim Noakes and his team are trying to do their part in dealing with unhealthy eating or as they like to put it: "The Real Meal Revolution’s next step towards changing the world."
See your doctor
Of course it goes without saying that before attempting new eating plans or exercise regimes of any kind when pregnant or for your young children, you should consult your doctor. Eating plans affect different people in a variety of different ways and only a qualified medical practitioner who has examined you and your family and knows your history can accurately give you advice on what is safe.
Always seek medical advice and learn all of the facts before making an extreme change in diet.
