Who gets Suri?
Katie Holmes wants sole custody of Suri. But is that in her best interest?
After 5 years of marriage Katie Holmes has filed for divorce from Tom Cruise. And while everyone is pointing fingers at Scientology, talking about all the money she's going to get, whether it's valid for her to file in New York and that
Tom is filing in California
, what it all comes down to is that there is a little 6-year-old girl that is going to be in the middle of this media circus
. Divorce is a tough thing to go through but even more so when the world is watching.
To make things worse, Katie is filing for sole custody of Suri and according to her lawyer, "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest". Okay, so let's just get this out of the way. Yes, it would seem that Scientology is crazy as hell
. And I'm not going to get into how we should all respect that people can believe in whatever they want to. But does believing in Scientology make Tom a bad father? It wouldn't seem so from what we see in the paparazzi snaps and tabloids. To be honest, we don't know what goes on in their lives behind closed doors, but when you see him with his kids he seems to be a good dad
Asking for sole custody would deprive Suri of the father she knows and loves. It would mean he has no legal say in what happens to her and would not be able to see Suri unless there is a visitation agreement. How is that in her best interest? Yes, he's a Scientologist but as far as we know he's not a drug addict, alcoholic or child abuser that she should ask for sole custody. Tom is filing for divorce in California and asking for joint custody (the same arrangement he has with Nicole Kidman for their two kids) and this seems to be more logical.
Is filing for sole custody in Suri's best interest?
