When an apple’s not enough

accreditation
Congratulations! Your child has made it to one of the biggest milestones of their lives (so far). They’ve just graduated pre-school. Many parents have entrusted their children to teachers, teachers who have had the opportunity to play an active role in watching and helping these children grow up. Should there be a reward for the teacher who has done so much to shape your child?

Key people
If you think about it, many pre-school teachers are the ones who get to teach everything from pencil-grip to potty training. Some teachers have taught children how to draw, read and socialise appropriately. While it is their career choice, and isn’t meant to replace the role of the parents, there is no denying the influence a great teacher can have during this vital stage of development.

So, when it comes to that final “graduation”, as your child prepares for Grade R, should parents consider rewarding those pre-school teachers, or is that even necessary?

Above and beyond the call of duty?
Long hours, frequent sniffles passed on from the kids, patience where many moms and dads would be tearing their (remaining) hair out: These are trials that pre-school teachers face, often for modest salaries. Their role may be limited to just keeping your child progressing academically, or it could be as important as being the person who manages to catch a potential learning disability early- chances are, your child’s pre-school teacher is more than just a babysitter.

Some parents feel that it’s not necessary to reward a teacher for an already salaried role. Others give extravagantly, marvelling at the way their child has blossomed over the years.

What do you think is appropriate as a farewell gift to a pre-school teacher?
