Rupert Everett, famous for his roles in ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ and Shrek 2 has made some surprising comments on gay parenting, including that he “can’t think of anything worse than being brought up by two gay dads”, according to The Sunday Times magazine.

'Too many children on the planet'

Everett, who happens to be gay, insists that he’s entitled to his opinion, adding that his reasons for not wanting children are personal: "I’m not speaking on behalf of the gay community. In fact, I don’t feel like I’m part of any ‘community.' The only community I belong to is humanity and we’ve got too many children on the planet, so it’s good not to have more.”

Gay rights activist groups have condemned Everett’s comments as blatantly untrue, saying that there’s no indication that being raised by two gay parents has any kind of detrimental effect on the child.

Everett’s mother has previously commented in interviews that she believes a child should be raised by a mommy AND a daddy.
