Kinetic Sand
An amazing sensory play tool that will help your child calm down.

A few weeks ago we were sent the most amazing thing: Kinetic Sand. Acorn Kids sent us both the 600g tub as well as the smaller 100g tub. We immediately divvied up the smaller tub between the few of us at the office and it is so relaxing. It's a bit like wet sand but it doesn't stick to anything, not even your hands! It's easily moulded and my favourite thing to do it watch it slowly trickle between my fingers.

Kinetic Sand is a great way to develop your child's fine motor skills and creative skills by encouraging open play and creativity. When I got and gave it to my 18-month-old he was fascinated by it but then again he's fascinated by anything at this point in his life. So I thought I'd try it out with my 8-year-old cousin.

Now let me set this scene for you: when I arrived they were playing Fable 2 on their XBox and when I showed them this play stopped. They were mesmerised and completely fascinated by it. It's such a fun way to get your kids to switch off from technology and provides some calm to an otherwise hectic and fast-paced life.

Kinetic sand is made up of 98% sand and 2% polydimethylsiloxane which is a silicon-based organic polymer known for its unusual flow properties.

Take a look at the video below to check it out in action:

Where can I buy it: You can order it straight from Acorn Kids website.

What does it cost? R25 for 100g and R120 for 600g.

Have you tried Kinetic Sand? What do your kids think of it?
