What we thought:
I really loved this camera and was sad at the thought of parting with it. The camera is easy to hold in one hand so I could hold my husband's hand while strolling through Simon's Town and snapping away with the other. It's really sturdy and the rubber casing makes it easy to grip and also takes away that fear of it falling, because you know it will survive.
While this is primarily a video camera it takes wonderful 5 MP pictures and I used it as both a camera and video camera. The video quality is 1080p HD and you can connect it straight to the TV and watch your videos off there. I really liked how fast the camera actually took the picture. There was almost no time between clicking and the picture being taken.
The biggest feature about the Kodak Playsport is that it is waterproof and can be submerged up to 3 meters below water. Now at first I was a bit nervous about submerging this expensive camera that wasn't mine under water, but when you look at the sides where the connectors, memory card and battery live you will see that they are airtight so they're protected from water damage.
There were only 2 downsides to the camera but the one is a complaint of most digital cameras and that is that it doesn't come with a memory card and the on board memory is rather small. So you'd need to invest in a SD card. The other let down is that there is no flash. But this is to be expected from a camera that is meant to be used during the daylight hours.
This camera is great for families with little ones who want to handle the camera and also for sporty families who want to record their extreme adventures.
