An 8-year-old boy took the opportunity at Michele Bachmann’s book signing event to tell the politician exactly what he thinks of her homophobic policies.
This short video, found on AlterNet shows how Elijah makes Bachmann’s jaw drop in astonishment as he whispers “my mommy is gay, but she doesn’t need any fixing”.
His comment is in response to the Republican potential presidential candidate’s statements that she thinks that homosexuals “need fixing”; she called being gay "part of Satan", and has compared it with slavery.
She's said teaching young children about gay people is akin to child abuse and has claimed that gays have a "sexual dysfunction". She believes gays specifically target children and has said repeatedly that she believes America is on a path that will eventually see young people forced to "try" being gay.
That’s not what Elijah thinks, however; here’s the transcript of his David vs. Goliath-style reprimand:
Michele: What's your name? Elijah: Elijah.
Michele: Elijah? It's really good to meet you-- what?
Lora: (To Elijah) Don't you have something you'd like to say?
Elijah: (Quiet whispering)
Michele: I can't hear him.
Lora: You can say it louder, go ahead.
Michele: No, it's alright. You said it, but you know, I- I think I, my ears were too far away. Do you wanna come over real quickly?
Elijah: My mommy-- Miss Bachmann, my mommy's gay but she doesn't need any fixing.
Michele: ... Ba-bye.
What about you? Do you think kids should be taught what “being gay” means?
