Let’s face it. Parenting is hardly sexy. No matter how much love you have for your partner, and how proud you are to see them with your kids, being a mom or dad can put the brakes on your love life with your partner. You may not be able (or want) to get a babysitter, so how about these suggestions for some date nights in the comfort of your own home?

Ban the fish finger

A diet of fish fingers doesn’t scream romance- How about you feed your kids one meal, put them to bed, then, between you, rustle up a delicious, spicy table of sexy cuisine in your very own home restaurant? Add a tablecloth, candles, your best wine glasses and even napkins. Turn the lights down and the music up for that romantic feel.  Try some exotic, sexy food like strawberries dipped in chocolate, decadent chocolate cake or a fragrant curry to awaken your senses... Feeling brave? Eating sushi off each other’s bodies is bound to get the appetites going.

Bedtime stories

You’ve put your little ones to bed with their Dr. Seuss; now it’s time to read to your lover. Reading? Sexy? Well, not if you read Robert Ludlum, but if you pick something juicy (you know where I’m going with this) like Fifty Shades of Grey or another erotic book, you can spend some time taking turns to read it aloud. Audio CDs work, too, if you’re shy. Chances are, this will help you both to turn up the heat. If you’re adventurous, you can even do some role-playing, as long as you’re sure your little ones won’t sneak into the room!

Dirty dancing

When last did you go out dancing? Tonight, clear out a large space in your lounge. You need to look the part, so dress up in your finest clothes. Keep the music soft enough not to wake any sleeping kids, and bring out your inner Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. After an hour or two of slow dancing, you can take the dancing upstairs.

Strip Scrabble

Since Prince Harry made it public knowledge that stripping games are back in fashion, why not try a version of your own? It doesn’t have to be Scrabble, it could be any game meant for two. Surprisingly, many couples are still self-conscious of each other’s bodies, so this can create a real sense of intimacy and fun, both killer ingredients to a healthy sex-life.

Home movies

No, I’m not suggesting making your own adult movie (!), but, rather, choose a movie or two which are full of some hot romance, and get your popcorn ready. Heck, even a horror movie can work, as you’ll be forced to hold hands and snuggle for comfort...

In all of these, for most parents there’s the likelihood that a sleepy-eyed child could wake up. If they are older, give them something to distract them in their rooms, or make sure they are very tired before date night starts. Even if you have to repeat your date night another day, that’s not always a bad thing. These ideas are just to get you started. You could try anything from couple's massages to skinny dipping in the pool... Enjoy bringing out a more romantic, sexier you.

What do you do as a parent to keep your love life alive?
