In a nerve-wracking clip captured on film, actress Gwyneth Paltrow and her nine-year-old daughter Apple narrowly avoid being hit by a school bus as they pull out into the road on Gwyneth’s scooter in LA.

Close call

The clip shows how Gwyneth and Apple pause before pulling out in front of a yellow school bus. Incredibly, the bus stops and no one is hurt. Her husband Chris Martin and son Moses were following the pair on another Vespa and appeared unfazed by the close call.

In SA traffic can become particularly congested, particularly during rush hour when the school run is on. Commuters are encouraged to share cars and drive with caution. In many large cities across the world drivers have abandoned cars in favour of motorbikes and scooters as the smaller vehicles are lighter on fuel and easier to park in small spaces.

Traffic accidents are frequent, however, and two-wheeled vehicles are harder to spot on the road, so motorbike and scooter riders are often hurt or even killed by larger vehicles on busy roads.

Time-saver?

It’s tempting, though: Instead of schlepping a huge soccer-mommy SUV through packed roads, a scooter could see you getting your child off to school in a fraction of the time
