Heartbreaking pic of bomb victim

8-year-old boy killed in bomb blast holds sign saying ‘no more hurting people’.

This dreadfully sad picture of 8-year-old Martin Richard, the youngest victim in the Boston Marathon bomb blast of Monday 15 April has emerged in the media: The youngster is holding a sign he’d made which says “No more hurting people. Peace.”

According to Huffington Post, the picture was uploaded to social network Facebook by Lucia Brawley, a friend of the tragic boy’s former teacher. The boy was a spectator at the marathon, there to support family friends.

Reports of the bombings were quickly met with horror as it emerged that Martin, aged only eight, was one of the victims. Just as in other contexts of violence, the loss of life is appalling, but that much more poignant when children are the victims.

This picture of Martin with his painstakingly-written sign, huge eyes and half smile should haunt us.

Does your child know the difference between war and peace?
