No more outings for kids?

I can remember school outings as a kid. The whole class cramming into a bus, tucking into warm juice, soggy sandwiches and stinky hard-boiled eggs and making faces at passing cars. For kids in KwaZulu-Natal, however, their days of school outings are over. A series of tragic road accidents involving kids on school outings, taking the lives of many, has prompted Education MEC Senzo Mchunu to place a ban all school outings for the rest of the year, according to IOL.

No more dancing?

Not only will the kids miss out on local museums, but they'll also not be allowed to travel to sporting events or dances. While this may seem extreme, the horrific accidents have left the education community distressed- Mchunu has said that schools, as well as his department, require the ban in order to process the losses and make preventative measures for future trips. Minibus taxis and school buses have been involved in many of the accidents.

Is this the end of an era for SA schools, as attempts at preventing the carnage on the roads from continuing will see schoolchildren kept sfaely behind the fences?
