Resting when you first come down with a cold or flu helps your body direct its energy toward the immune battle.
Blow your nose often, the right way
Blow your nose regularly, but don’t blow hard as this can cause earache. Press a finger over one nostril while you gently blow to clear the other. Always wash your hands after blowing your nose.
Gargling can moisten a sore throat and bring temporary relief. Try a teaspoon of salt dissolved in warm water, four times daily.
Drink hot liquids
Hot liquids such as herbal tea, or hot lemon water can help to relieve nasal congestion, prevent dehydration and soothe the inflamed membranes that line your nose and throat.
Use hot or cold packs around your sinus
Buy a cold pack from your pharmacy and place over your sinuses. Or for a hot pack take a damp wash cloth and heat it for 55 seconds in the microwave (test the temperature first). This will help relieve sinus pressure.
