5 fun things to do with your little one this weekend
Stuck for ideas? Here are 5 fab activities to keep you and your kids busy over a weekend!
1. Treasure hunt
Who says treasure hunts are confined to birthday parties and Easter? Children love to find things and while the concept of hiding himself may not yet have taken hold in your child’s mind, finding a few objects hidden around the house is a fun game to play.
Take a few of his favourite stuffed animals, hide them and then help him find them by giving him clues as to where they might be.
2. Have a picnic
If your tot is old enough this can be turned into a grand production. First help her make a few simple invitations (some light crafting is always a fun activity). Then get her to invite all her teddies, imaginary friends and you to a picnic that she sets up.
Help her get out a blanket and a tea set (either her play one or your real one) and then let her set it up. Allow your child to pick some flowers from the garden and put them in a vase.
Your picnic can be as simple or elaborate as time and resources allow but let your child do most of the work and be the host. It will occupy her for longer and give her a great sense of achievement.
3. Make jelly
It’s quick, it’s inexpensive and kids love it! Get out a bowl or a mould and supervise your tot while she makes herself a treat.
4. Play “school school”
Let your tot be your teacher. She must set up the classroom and you can be the student. You will be amazed at how much you learn when you let your child take the lead in playing a game like this. Ask lots of questions and ask your “teacher” how to draw a picture.
Put on a piece of music and ask your child to make up a dance to it. Children love showing off for their parents and you’ll get a bit of down time while your little one practices her concert for you.
