Despite being a former American Idol contestant, single mom Kimberly Henderson’s lifelong dream of being a professional singer have only recently been realised after she uploaded a video of herself singing a lullaby to her baby, according to ViralNova. The song, a cover of Whitney Houston’s “How will I know”, sung to her baby daughter Vaida, touched millions of people. But she only recently explained some of the story behind her pregnancy, including the poignant moment that her baby nearly died.

A dream almost terminated

She explained on her Facebook page that two years’ ago she’d been sitting in an abortion clinic considering terminating her pregnancy as her boyfriend at the time had allegedly been cheating on her, and that it just hadn’t seemed like the right time to have a baby. Then, she says, something amazing happened. Despite her t-shirt being soaked with her tears, she says that she realised that God was trying to help her change her mind about the abortion. A series of events had made it difficult for her to get to the clinic, and two last-minute calls from friends sealed her decision not to abort.

A big decision

The decision to terminate a pregnancy is a difficult one, but it remains the right of any woman to choose to do so.

If you’re pregnant and seeking advice about what to do, chat to your local doctor for advice, and never seek out an abortion from an unlicensed practitioner.

What do you think of Kimberly’s story and song?
