When I was in high school, I remember a group of us spending free periods and intervals studying The Cape Times. I can't remember if I willingly volunteered to do this or if I was volunteered by my English teacher. English teachers have that tendency.
In 1993 the Western Cape branch of The South African Institute of International Affairs held the first Interschool Quiz and this year saw 55 schools taking part after cramming for 10 days.
The winning team received a cash prize for their school and an invitation to the annual SAIIA Young Leaders Conference in Joburg at the end of the year. All schools who participated received books for their library.
