When you think of winter, family holidays are not the first thing that comes to mind. But winter is probably one of the best times to go on holiday. It's off-season which means rates are cheaper, hot springs are relaxing or curling up by a lovely fire playing board games with the family is a great way to take a break.

With winter break coming up soon we thought we would ask our Facebook fans what their favourite winter family holidays were. Here's what they had to say.
Kruger National Park
Sonja Lubbe: Viewing the Big 5 and all other animals in their habitat is an amazing experience. Also during the winter there are fewer mosquitos which makes the chances of contracting malaria very small. There are great camps with all facilities. You drive around the whole day so you don't have to worry about the weather or rain. During the summer most animals e.g. lions lie on the grass which makes it difficult to spot them.
Drakensberg
Losh Don Kisten: Its such a beautiful, majestic, magical wonder of nature, pure crisp air, divine farm fresh and delish, scenic, breath-taking views, utter tranquility. I love it.
Crystal Springs near Pilgrim's Rest
Sheila Andresen Grobler: Crystal Springs is nearby all the attractions Mpumalanga has to offer like Pilgrim's Rest, waterfalls galore, The Pinnacle, Gods Window, etc. It's a good base to visit the sites. The chalets all look over the valley and the setting is really beautiful! Log fires at night keep out the winter chill... there's putt putt, a games room, pizzeria and restaurant, tennis courts, walking trails and a 4X4 trail - all on site.
Hogsback, Eastern Cape
Sheila Andresen Grobler: Hogsback is a very special place. Was there in the 80s. It's mysterious and of course The Lord of the Rings setting was inspired by Hogsback. I remember the tree trunks used as benches in the forest and the crystal clear mountain streams.
The Baths, Citrusdal
Zayaan Schroeder: This one is my personal favourite. When we were kids my parents booked this place in the middle of nowhere and we had such a great time. We played in the river, went exploring and best of all went swimming in the hot pool that was fed by the hot water springs when it started to rain. It was glorious.
