Miley Cyrus, a teen celebrity who's been in the spotlight for many years, at the age of 19 is settling into her womanly curves and suddenly she's fat.
Excuse me?
So called “Twitter critics” (read cowards) took to calling Miley fat but she fought back.
Miley posted a picture of an anorexic woman with her ribs exposed and practically no meat on her body saying “By calling girls like me fat this is what you're doing to other people. i love MYSELF & if you could say the same”. And this is exactly my issue.
On a daily basis we see young models who are on the verge of dying from hunger as they walk down the runway or pose for photoshoots and it's deemed acceptable. Well it's not.
Now curve-haters have started targeting teenagers? That just gets my blood boiling. Young people are already struggling with their body image and if we start attacking their teenage role models, then what kind of message are we sending?
Miss Cyrus is in no way perfect and I've never been much of a fan but I couldn't have been prouder when she tweeted “I LOVE being shaped like a WOMAN”. Yes! That is what we want from celebville.
Take notes, teens. Loving the way you look is definitely The New Awesome.
