Is your teen dating?
What age would you allow your child to start dating?

My parents were quite strict with me. I wasn't allowed to date in high school, but even if I was I wouldn't have been able to get it right anyway. I was beyond awkward and shy. While it may not have seemed so when I was with my friends, when it came to boys I liked, I was the worst.

But most people in my school had somewhat steady boyfriends or girlfriends from around Standard 8 onwards (yes, I'm that old, they were still called Standards).

We asked our Facebook fans at what age they would you allow their child to start dating?

When they are mature & responsible enough to say no. I think chronological age isn't a good determination but probably around 16. But I'd rather not set an age limit for them as I'd rather they not see people behind my back because I won't allow them to date. Tough call. - Jessica Perelson

35 - Renee van Rensburg

If hubby had his way it would be never, lol - Jenna Nel

I'd say 6 months into high school they can start with group worked for me. I think if you raise your kids right and provide the right level of supervision, dating can teach teenagers some good lessons about real life and people. - Jodi Samuel

21. But my first daughter started at age of 26 then my second started at age of 23 then my third at age of 20. Hmmm then me at age of 19 - Valentia Corbett

I told mine '18' when he was younger. Now that he's almost 15, he's trying to negotiate a different age. Being realistic, you can't really say NO after 16. Just educate, inform and have a very open line of communication. I could never picture my little boy ever actually dating! Haha - Tanya Daniels

Its never the right time... but atleast between 17 &18, varsity aint the right place to start though because there is a lot happening there and a bit of experience is needed beforhand or they might end up in the wrong hands... or even you paying for a 3yr Bcom for 5years. Talking from experience. - Tumisho Maake

I have a 13yr old daughter & a 6yr old son If it was up to me, probably after they've Graduated University (I'm hopeful) but times have changed and like Jodi says with the right supervision teenagers (young adults) can learn some valid lessons about life and people. - Charlotte Stoffels Myburgh

Between 16 and 18,depending on how well she can cope with adolescent life. - Deidre Quorra Abrahams
