Religion vs evolution in schools
A teacher who wanted to teach evolution is forced to quit.
Pressure from colleagues in her department over of her intention to teach evolution has led to a local science teacher losing her job, according to a report from News24.

The biology department at the upmarket school is almost entirely made up of Christians, and, according to the ousted teacher, it’s common for these teachers to "poo-poo" the concept of the theory of evolution by natural selection, and mock other related subjects such as the age of the earth, carbon dating and the fossil record.

This follows on the trend in the US, where some schools are lobbying to have creationism taught as a competing theory to the theory of evolution by natural selection.

According to the report given by the now unemployed teacher, her concern is specifically that science teachers are being selective about what they teach children, and that this will lead to the quality of their education being compromised.

In addition, she says that it’s quite a common practice:

"I met a Muslim biology teacher who refused to teach evolution and I met a Christian geography teacher who refused to teach plate tectonics."

Parents are also allegedly telling their kids to ignore evolution theory teaching.
