Rebecca Brown is 22 years old. Between September 2007 and March 2014 she took a selfie almost every day- 2 100 of them, in fact. Then she stitched the pictures together to create a mesmerising video of the changes she experienced outwardly as a teen. Her reasons for doing this are just as fascinating as the video…

Not a vanity project

Rebecca suffers from trichotillomania- a complex hair disorder which compels her to pull out her hair. You’ll see how she copes with that in a moment.

In addition, she says in the description of her video that she suffers from depression, suicidal periods and low self-esteem caused by her hair loss and marks on her skin caused by dermotillomania, or obsessive skin picking.

The unlikely ambassador

So, while other teens are documenting their parties, Rebecca is hoping to reveal more than just her face- she says that the project only shows her exterior, but that she hopes people will watch her videos and find out more about her than just her hair or skin.

She’s an outspoken advocate for people suffering with trichotillomania and has appeared on TV to raise awareness.
