Is your teen on tik?
Would you be able to tell if your teen was on drugs?
With drug awareness week upon us it's time to talk about the really scary thing that all parents dread: Drugs. Parents of teens often fear that their children will indulge and be weak to peer pressure. You hope with all your heart that you've given them a good moral compass and some common sense. But teens are easily tempted by something new and dangerous.

You as a parent can help by look out for these drugs. There are different kinds of drugs and if you know what they do and how your child will act on them then you can nip the problem in the bud. Our teen expert, Megan de Beyer also gives us some signs and symptoms of drug use.

What if you suspect your child is taking drugs? How do you tell if your teenager’s behaviour just the normal scourges of adolescence, or if there is something more serious lurking in the woodwork? Grant Jardine, director of the Cape Town Drug Counselling Centre has this to say: "Talk to your children. Make your views clear, but also keep the lines of communication open. Be on the lookout, but don’t become paranoid. You could just succeed in alienating your child".

‘She was sniffing drugs’

This father tells a harrowing tale of how he found out about his child doing drugs and how heartbreaking it is.  He wonders if it had anything to do with him losing his business. Was this a case of trying to cope instead of peer pressure

But all is not lost. Here's how to help your kid through this terrible addiction and help them get their lives back on track. Also you can have some peace of mind knowing that random drug testing is permitted at all public schools in South Africa, following implementation of the Education Amendment Laws Act, which took place in the beginning of 2008.

What would you do if you discovered your teen was abusing drugs? Have you been through this? How did you cope?
