A teenager has built himself an extension to his shorter right arm by using Lego – and he can use it to pick up and put down objects.
The 18-year-old made his dream of having a new arm come true by using the toy bricks.
David Aguilar made a video of himself using the DIY prosthesis at his home in Andorra, a tiny independent principality situated between France and Spain.
David’s father, Ferran, explained that his son, who’s used Lego since he was a child, surprised everyone with this genius invention.
Ferran shared the incredible creation with the Danish company, which wrote a Facebook message praising David for his inventiveness.
A Lego spokesperson said the company was left speechless! "The strength and tenacity of David are the things making us proud. We want to keep giving chances to all children in the world to have access to our bricks."
David’s right arm never developed completely, which means he has the use of only one hand. But he was able to use the popular children’s toy to create a limb, which he’s able to operate using his malformed arm.
The incredible video shows him using the arm to pick up a can of deodorant using the pincer-like grip at its end.
"When I move my arm, the hand opens and closes, which allows me to get things. With what was a toy I’ve managed to get my dream done," said David, who’s studying technology at high school.
He’s interested in pursuing a career in IT and robotics and hopes to become an aeronautical engineer one day.
