My daughter is going into grade 12 and I am petrified that she will not cope, her marks during term time are reasonable but she chokes at exams despite study skills etc. How do I help her?

Expert advice
If her marks during term time are reasonable then you shouldn't have any reason to worry. She will need to make sure she meets all her portfolio deadlines in Grade 12 and her CASS marks should be fine. Unfortunately, a large component of the final Gr 12 mark is the final exam, so she will need to plan accordingly and devote enough time to preparing for these exams. Remaining calm is key, for you and her.
There will be mid-year exams and/or prelim exams before finals, which she can use to assess her readiness. After those exams, meet with the teachers to go through any areas of difficulty or concern. Go online to get past papers and become familiar with exams to reduce anxiety. Subject teachers should also be teaching good exam technique, in other words, how to approach an exam, and how to interpret and answer questions.
