A Cape Town woman has confessed to killing her “missing” child.
A woman in Cape Town who had reported her 2-year-old son as missing confessed to police that she had murdered him after his body was discovered buried in a shallow grave at a local primary school.
The tragic events took place as families around the city prepared for festivities; the woman had allegedly reported her toddler, Tariq Jacobs, as missing, and last seen at an old bus terminus in Mitchells Plain.
A massive search eventually led to the discovery of his body.
The woman, who is pregnant, then reportedly confessed to her son’s murder. She is to appear in court on charges of murder and abandonment.
Multiple murders?
As if that wasn’t enough, detectives are also investigating the possibility of foul play in the deaths of two of her other children.
The sad case has led to widespread condemnation of the terrible murder of Tariq, and speculation that the system failed this family. The most obvious questions raised are:
- How did this woman manage to slip through the system when her previous two children died, and
- What circumstances could have inspired her to murder not just one, but possibly three, of her children?
What do you think? Who is ultimately to blame for the murder of an innocent toddler?
