Shocking footage of a mom holding her kid down for a tattoo.

People are reacting with horror to footage being circulated featuring what appears to be a mom holding her screaming child still so that an adult can forcibly tattoo the toddler’s arm.
It’s not clear what the tattoo is of, but it is clear that the child does not want to be tattooed.
Most countries have age-restrictions on tattooing, and reputable tattoo artists have industry standards regarding age limits for tattoos.
Medical tattoos vs. cosmetic tattoos
Medical tattoos (which have a similar purpose to a medic alert bracelet, that is, providing vital information should the tattoo-wearer be incapable of communication) are done by choice by consenting adults. Sometimes medical tattoos are used to mark a specific place on the body which is being treated repeatedly.
Parents occasionally opt to modify their kids’ bodies for cultural or religious reasons, or even just cosmetic ones. From circumcision (both female and male) to ear piercing, there are controversies, but tattoos are permanent and purely cosmetic, right?
The footage of the toddler tattoo can be viewed online (WARNING, GRAPHIC CONTENT) here.
Forced tattooing has happened historically- in the concentration camps in WW2, when inmates were forcibly tattooed with an ID number, and on slaves and gladiators to indicate that they were “owned”.
We've addressed the wrong kind of tattoos before, but, as our tattooed celeb dad and mom galleries show, we're definitely not anti-tattooing!
Is it wrong to modify your child’s body?
