For those people who suffer from a fear of clowns, the shocking arrest of a man on child abuse and child porn charges will give them even more reason to dislike garish face-painting- Martin Evanick allegedly filmed himself performing sex acts on a minor and produced child pornography for over two years, says Huffington Post.

Real-life nightmares

Evanick has posted several pictures of himself dressed as a clown in different contexts to his Facebook page, and is also known to be the former drummer of heavy metal band “The Core of Your Nightmares”. The clown shots frequently depict him wearing clown makeup and clothing, often splattered with fake blood.

He had taken several pictures of himself taking part in sex acts with a child, and police have reportedly charged him with producing and sharing child pornography. His ex-band mates insist that Evanick had kept to himself, and that they weren’t aware of his double life.

If convicted he faces up to 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The clown fear

He is the latest in a macabre list of clowns who have committed heinous crimes, including convicted serial killer John Wayne Gacy and Jose Jimenez, convicted rapist. Stephen King’s novel, IT, centres on a community being terrorised by a psycho clown. Clowns have easy access to kids, often performing at children's parties, visiting hospitals or even simply doing clowning acts as street theatre.

Fear of clowns is known as 'coulrophobia'.

Is it time to get rid of clowns around kids?
