A child's clinic card is an essential part of their early life, and helps parents and medical professionals keep track of immunizations, development and overall growth and health.

But as we all experience, things can go wrong and clinic cards can get left in the taxi, become lost, be forgotten in a house move or otherwise generally just go missing.

But they're necessary for school registration, and to ensure the child gets the right vaccinations at the right time, so what can you do if you no longer have the clinic card?

We reached out to Lusanda Magadla, a nurse at Mediclinic Milnerton, who told Parent24 that it depends on the clinic or hospital, but most clinics document all of the client's details, so you should be able to get a new card if you lose your original one.

"If you know the date of the immunization then just go there and request for a new card on that day," she reassured us.

"They will also help you with immunization, even if the card is not ready yet, as long as it's your date and that can be verified in your folder."
