Eskom has passed the 50-day mark of load shedding-free days - the longest streak since December 2021 - despite a number of units failing last week.

During a briefing on Monday, Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said the overall health of the energy system was improving. 

Citing Eskom's data, Ramokgopa noted that the EAF - a measure of system performance - over the period 1 April to 16 May was around 60%. Over the same period last year it was around 51% - an improvement of roughly nine percentage points.
