Sometimes words are more powerful than we think and can hurt the people we love. Abusive behaviour is hardly ever intentional, and sometimes we say harmful and emotionally abusive things without meaning to be.

But it's also our responsibility as adults and parents to rectify those wrongs and break the cycle of unintentional abuse. These are just some problematic phrases.

We spoke to clinical psychologist, Sian Green, to get a better idea of why these phrases are harmful and what to say instead.
