The second Africa Youth Kung-Fu Championships did well in contributing to Goodwood’s economy, said Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Anroux Marais, after the SA Youth Kung Fu team walked away as champions.

She said she was pleased as punch at how well the international kung-fu event had been organised.

“The event is a feather in Cape Town’s cap, and will contribute to the Western Cape Government’s goal of making our province South Africa’s sports capital.”

According to Marais, not only Goodwood has benefited, but also the economies of Cape Town and the Western Cape.

The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport welcomed and commended the efforts of all organisers, participants and supporters who made it such a success.

“The cherry on top is, of course, the result, the South African youth team crowned the winners, each member of the team deserving congratulations,” the minister said, “for they have done our country proud.”

The championship took place at Fairbairn College in Goodwood.

The SA Youth Kung-Fu team coached by Legends of Kung-Fu World Champion, MJ Li and captained by Sinawo Akona Yola beat a combined Southern Africa Youth Kung-Fu team in the grand finale on Sunday 3 March.
