As President Cyril Ramaphosa's convoy of luxury vehicles, packed with heavily armed guards, dashed through the dirt-filled roads of Philippi, in Cape Town, the very residents Ramaphosa wants a vote from believe they will never experience real safety.
On Friday, Ramaphosa rolled into one of Cape Town's most dangerous and under-developed townships to campaign for the ANC ahead of the general elections later this month.
Before Ramaphosa's visit started, two ANC members warned journalists, in possession of expensive equipment, not to traverse the area alone.
