A teacher union has slammed the practice of matric pupils' reliance on the so-called exemplar question papers and suggested answers to help them prepare and study for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams.
Hema Hariram, senior executive officer at the National Professional Teachers' Organisation of South Africa (Naptosa), said the Department of Basic Education has acknowledged pupils' reliance on the exemplars or examples of possible questions that Grade 12 pupils can possibly expect to see in the final exam.
She told delegates attending the basic education sector lekgotla in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, on Thursday that learner reliance on exemplar question papers resulted in some of them "regurgitating answers that don't meet the question".
